Engineers in World of Warcraft can choose to be Goblin Engineers or Gnomish Engineers. After choosing your path, you will be able to learn how to make different items.

One of the final items for each profession is a strong trinket that can only be crafted and used by the character with this profession. Engineers have the Goblin path from the Gnomish Verses, and each path has its unique trinket. Let’s compare the two:

  • The range of the Rocket Launcher (RS) is 45 yards, the range of the Gnomish Poultryizer (GP) is only 20 yards.
  • RS has a 2 minute cooldown, GP has a 5 minute cooldown.
  • RS has 5 second cast, GP has only 1.5 second cast.
  • RS can be used in Arena, GP cannot be used in Arena.
  • RS does damage (960 to 1440, with a crit over 3000 damage), GP will do no damage.
  • RS is a great way to catch fleeing enemies, GP won’t be the best for that (especially in PVP).
  • RS is not glitchy, GP has been reported to fail 20% of the time (some report as high as 80%).
  • RS has a 3 second stun on the target (you will be kicked for 2 seconds), GP will turn the target (if you don’t backfire) into a chicken, can still melee attack (reduces its damage by 66 %) and no spell is cast for up to 15 seconds (or the first damage).

Both items have a 45+ resistance when equipped, and both have a nice visible effect. Goblin engineers learn the Rocket Launcher trinket at level 350, while the gnomish engineer learns the gnomish Poultryizer trinket at level 340. Not to take sides, but I think the Launcher is better used in most situations. One thing to remember is that while both items are expensive to craft, the Rocket Launcher consumes a lot more gold.
