You have it, you don’t want it, but you need to know the causes of excessive sweating. Why? Because once you know the causes, you can work back and see if something you’re doing is making the situation worse. And conversely, how can you improve it!

Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why you might be sweating so much.

First: Sweating is normal!

The first thing you should know is that sweating is normal! In fact, if you didn’t sweat, you’d be in danger of dying. It’s just a matter of volume.

Sweating is your body’s way of doing two things. First of all, it helps regulate your body temperature. Second, it gets rid of any toxins that may be floating around in your system. So sweating is actually a good thing…you just don’t want too much of a good thing!

Another thing you should know: excessive sweating is also called hyperhidrosis.

Know them: causes of excessive sweating

Now that you know that sweating is normal and that you understand what hyperhidrosis is, let’s move on to the causes of excessive sweating.

First, are you overweight? If true; while skinny people can sweat excessively, being overweight can make it worse. If you need to lose weight, start now (your body will thank you).

Next, are you taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications? If so, check the possible side effects to see if sweating is among them. If so, talk to your doctor about other medication options that may be available.

You are what you sweat…especially if you eat a lot of “trigger foods,” foods that are known to trigger heavy sweating. They include caffeine, certain spices (like those found in spicy foods), and (unfortunately for some of us) chocolate.

What else causes excessive sweating? Let’s look at the clothes you wear; if you wear multiple layers to hide sweat stains, you may be making things worse. Take a look at the underarm sweat pads on the market. You will be surprised how much your sweat decreases!

Are you drinking enough water? That seems like an unusual statement, since you want to decrease the water coming out through your pores! But remember, one of the causes of sweating is getting rid of toxins in your body. If you’re drinking anything but water, you’re taking in more toxins than you’re putting out.

Excessive sweating: fight back!

You can fight back! Now that you know the causes of excessive sweating, you’re on your way to finding a cure.
