Shade sails come in all different shapes and sizes. The most popular shapes are triangle candles or square/rectangular candles. In addition, the solar sails are also available in different colors. However, before planning to install a sail, many people wonder what the differences are between square and triangular shade sails. Either way will provide great coverage, however each also has its advantages and disadvantages.

Square sun sails will provide the most coverage. They are available in a variety of sizes ranging from pre-made candles to custom-sized square candles. However, larger square sails will generally require stronger fixing points. It is recommended to use steel poles as flagpoles. Also, each post must be cemented into the ground. The general rule of thumb for how far into the ground you should go will be 1/3 of your walk through height. So if your run is going to be 9 feet, you need to go about 3 feet deep into the ground. Most engineers generally recommend submerging at least 4 feet into the ground as a starting point. The other downside to a large square sail is the potential for it to “droop” in the middle. This can happen for a variety of reasons. Lack of tension and water buildup are the main reasons why a solar sail will tip over in the middle. Also, square sails do not organize as well as triangular shade sails.

Triangle shade sails also have many advantages and disadvantages. The biggest advantage they have over square sails is that they can be arranged in a variety of configurations that will please just about anyone. You can point to one that goes in one direction and one that goes in the other direction. You can also go to heights or just play around with whatever you want to make your arrangement. One of the big disadvantages is that triangular sails always have a gap between the sails. This is an area where sunlight or water can easily pass through. The advantage is that they will not swell as much as square sails if installed correctly. In addition, the holes prevent so much water from accumulating and causing the sun sail to sink.

You must first determine the primary function of the candles before deciding which shape to purchase. If you are primarily looking to get as much shade coverage as possible, then a square or rectangular sail will be to your advantage. However, if you’re looking for something that can transform the architecture of your surroundings, then a triangular sail might not be such a bad idea. Either way, shade sails provide a great way to cover just about anything quickly and cheaply.
