One of my favorite songs is a song by India Aria called “Video”. In this song, she sings about how she doesn’t look like the idealized girls in popular music videos, but that she’s beautiful nonetheless. Contrary to images of beauty that are often portrayed on television and in magazines, there is no such thing as the perfect type of beauty because we are all beautiful in our own unique way. The key to being your most beautiful self is learning to accentuate your natural attributes so your real self can shine through. Here are three things you can do to love yourself just the way you are.

1. Be confident. Projecting an attitude of confidence (not conceit) makes you more seductive and attractive. People will want to get to know you, because you will come across as a girl who is comfortable with herself and is fun to be around. Even if you feel a little nervous, do your best to project a positive and upbeat attitude. What will eventually happen is that even if you are a little insecure, by making a habit of thinking and acting more confidently, over time your inner attitude will catch up with your outer personality.

2. Be your own cheerleader. It’s great to have people in your life who lift you up and lift you up. But sometimes things don’t work out that way and you’ll have to become your own cheerleader. How? Talk to yourself as if you were training a star athlete. If you were coaching a star athlete, you wouldn’t badmouth her or allow negative comments to enter her space. I know it sounds corny, but this tip has been known to work.

3. Be physical. Girls who participate in some form of physical activity tend to feel more confident and in control than those who don’t. It’s not about losing weight or burning out. It’s all about getting your body moving so you have more energy and oomph, not to mention you’ll probably meet new friends too.
