Have you ever been frustrated in LOTRO waiting to find a group to run an instance? Maybe you want to level up faster or grind works faster. Maybe you’re just busy and want to optimize your playtime. Whatever the reason for your frustration, multi-boxing in Lord of the Rings online can make your gaming experience more enjoyable, challenging and exciting.

Personally, the reason I got into multiple boxing at LOTRO was a combination of the reasons above. I was very busy with work and was balancing my personal life with friends and a girlfriend. I just didn’t have a lot of time to play my favorite MMORPG. I was constantly frustrated when I finally had time to play games and was unable to participate in instance races, complete companionship missions, and work through some of the more difficult feats. It was infuriating to have to waste what little playing time I had looking for other players.

One day playing LOTRO, I came across a strange looking scene in the middle of Bree-land. I saw a group of two players, a dwarf champion and a dwarf minstrel. The minstrel seemed to be following the dwarf champion as he launched heals when needed. It was obvious that two players were not playing. He had the feeling that one player was somehow controlling both characters. I texted the champion asking if both characters were his. He kindly replied, explaining the concept of dual boxing. He had two accounts, two computers, and he put the minstrel on track. He was able to take on almost all the mobs on his own without too much trouble.

The concept intrigued me for several reasons. First, I knew that it would be wonderful to be able to tackle any content or monsters on my own without having to bother to form a group. Since my gaming moments were during free hours when there were not many people playing, this was very attractive. Second, it seemed like it would be an interesting challenge. Controlling two players at the same time would force me to really understand and get into the game on a completely different level.

In the last two years, my dual boxing has turned into multiple boxing with six computers and six accounts. I have been able to successfully complete any action, mission, and almost any instance of the game. I still play with my kinship members, but even grouping with others is better because you can always find a group! I can tell you that if you are pressed for time or can’t get enough people to complete a raid, being able to do multiple boxers is extremely helpful.

If you are bored of playing LOTRO or any other MMORPG, if you are sick and tired of waiting for groups to form, if you are too busy working to have a lot of game time, or if you just want to add another level of fun and challenge to the game, I strongly suggest that you consider multi boxing. It’s probably the only reason I’ve been active and enjoyed the game as much as I have in recent years.
