A headline is one of the most important things you can do for your landing page. The headline may well be the most important thing you do for your landing page. Keep this in mind, if they don’t like your headline, if they don’t get ‘caught’ by your headline, they won’t read the rest of your landing page copy. So the headline is critical.

Now, writing a title for a capture page is a lot like writing a title for a sales page or any other type of sales copy.

The headline should grab the reader and should be benefit oriented, not feature oriented.

Here are some examples of compelling headlines:

  • How to cure diabetes naturally, once and for all!
  • How To Make Money Online As A Christian Entrepreneur
  • How to have green grass all year round
  • How to lose 30 pounds in the next 90 days
  • Do you want to learn the secrets of forex trading?
  • You can also use these fill-in-the-blank examples:
  • How _________ in __________ (time, year, month, days)
  • Do you want ____________ in __________ (time, year, month, days)?
  • How I _______________ by _________________
  • Do you want ______________ like me?

Write compelling copy

This should be a short paragraph that simply describes what they are going to learn when they read your free ebook. You can literally make sentences out of each of your topic headlines.

Create some bullets

Create a bullet list using the benefits you came up with above.

For example, for a weight loss ebook:

  • Discover the secret to lose 2 kilos per week
  • How to go down a dress size per month
  • Secret food that makes fat melt away
  • Revealed – how to banish hunger, quickly and easily

Create a compelling engagement pipeline

For this line, I simply tell the reader to download my free ebook. Don’t tell them to subscribe to your list, tell them to download your ebook. When they download your eBook, they will automatically be added to your list. If they don’t want to stay on your list after downloading the eBook, that’s okay (some will unsubscribe). But your acceptance rate will be much higher if you use language indicating that they are downloading an eBook (which they are) and simply omit any language about a listing.

That’s it!

You’ll notice that I don’t include a script paragraph on that squeeze page, and of course I’ve asked you to do so. The reason is that I am using this page strictly to engage with people who have read my articles and therefore the ranking of this page is not important. Anecdotal evidence suggests that search engines prefer landing pages on top-ranking websites to have some content, which is why I asked you to add a paragraph of content. If you’re using this strictly for signups from a traffic source and aren’t interested in having this page rank in the search engines, feel free to model it directly after mine. Just an incidental note: that squeeze page consistently converts at 65%. Please note that the traffic to that page is highly targeted and you are following a link that basically tells them to click on that page to download my free ebook.
