Your metabolism is a chemical process within the body that converts calories from the food you eat into energy that your body can use. Your metabolism falls into two categories, defined by the types of foods your metabolism breaks down for energy, fuel, maintenance, and growth.

Anabolism is one of the categories of your metabolism. Anabolism, or building metabolism, is the part of your metabolism that uses your proteins to break down food into energy compounds. The energy is then used to help the body maintain and repair itself if it is cut or injured, and to grow.

Catabolism is the second category. This is sometimes called destructive metabolism. What catabolic metabolism does is break down the carbohydrates and fats we eat and create energy and fuel for the body to use.

The metabolic rate varies depending on certain criteria, this is physical condition, weight, muscle mass and even genetics. The slower your metabolism, the harder it will be for you to lose weight. But there are some simple ways to speed up your metabolism.

The first is exercise. Getting a good workout three or more times a week can boost your metabolism incredibly. Most would say it’s even better to eat after you’ve worked out at the gym, since you’ll burn calories from food faster then.

The second is to change your diet. Always eat your breakfast as this helps boost your metabolism. It’s also proven that eating lots of small things throughout the day instead of just a couple or even one big meal can help boost your metabolism.

The last tip is to drink cold water. Water helps replenish your system, and drinking cold water will flush toxins out of your body and increase your metabolic rate.
