Doc Rivers, born Glenn Rivers on October 13, 1961, is honored for both his professional NBA playing career and coaching career. His professional career as an NBA player began by representing the United States with the national team at the 1982 FIBA World Championship, where he made the MVP selection. He was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks, where he averaged a double-double for the 1986-87 seasons, then played for the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks and finished with the San Antonio Spurs.
His coaching career began in 1999 with the Orlando Magic, where he was honored with his first Coach of the Year title in 2000. After being fired from his coaching position with the Orlando Magic in 2003, he took over as head coach of the Boston Celtics. .
