Considering the types of dining tables is the first step in furnishing your dining room. One might consider purchasing a dining set; the kind that has a set of table, chairs, sideboard or sideboard or server etc, or you can mix and match, choosing from a wide range of dining tables that are available to meet any requirement. You can choose a really unique and unusual dining table or you can get a not-so-extraordinary one and then use touches like custom tablecloths, high-quality linens or fine china, and exquisite cutlery to enhance it. There is a lot to choose from:

The shape: The shape of dining tables has come a long way from the days when it was a boring rectangle; Take it or leave it. Now one can choose between round, oval, square, you name it! The general rule with the shape of dining tables is to go round when there is less space. Also, the large rectangular table can look quite formal, so if you are looking for a cozy or intimate setting, the round table may be the way to go.

Size: here again the options are wide. For a really large and formal dining room, you can choose a long dining table that seats 8, 10, or more. But few of us may have such a requirement or, indeed, the kind of dining room that would be required to accommodate that. It’s important to remember that many of us don’t even need the traditional 6 seater dining table on a daily basis. Consider an interestingly different square of four squares. This may well be enough for the daily needs of many of us. If one needs six chairs but is limited on space, then the round is the way to go. With round tables, more chairs can be placed around a table while taking up less space. Sometimes dining sets make a lot of sense because they could very well be the space savers one is looking for.

Materials used to make the table: It makes a lot of practical sense to opt for a veneer table that looks like wood but is more sturdy and resistant as it is resistant to warping, spills, etc. Many of us may not like the look of veneer, in which case you can always invest in a custom tablecloth to impart the uniqueness and touch of class. Wood is not the only material available for dining tables; far from there Wrought iron, glass, and even plastic are some of the other options that one may do well to consider.

Glass is elegant; more transparent and therefore creates the illusion of more space. It is easy to clean but can be prone to dust and scratches. As for plastic, they don’t have to look ‘cheap’ as may be a popular perception. Now even these can be had in great designs and finishes that are almost indistinguishable from wood! And they’re not just for the garden or patio, either. With a little imagination they can be made to fit anywhere! So there is a lot to choose from, in terms of the types of dining tables you can buy!
