Mobile phone apps are getting more and more popular with the release of every new smartphone. Make the organization of our lives more efficient, keeping us up to date with the latest news and events; Apps, free or paid, are just another reason cell phones have become such a big part of our world today.

The new Pandora app, developed from Pandora radio, is another one of those reasons why we appreciate amazing new apps for our smartphones. When making the list of the top ten most used smartphone apps, knowing the story behind the new app is a great way to benefit and respect it even more.

Pandora started a few years ago as a Music Genome Project. This mathematical algorithm created by Will Glaser and Tim Westergren was brought to Pandora Radio (currently on MSN) in the year 2000. The idea would be to create groups of music to categorize. Each song was then given a list of features that would place them within these pods.

In this, Pandora could offer song and artist suggestions that someone who liked a similar pod might also like. This gives the listener the ability to not only listen to their favorite tracks and artists, but also introduce them to new tracks and artists, on and off. Listeners choose to create stations based on their favorite artists. They can choose a multitude of stations and switch between all of them. Whether your phone breaks down and needs iPhone repair, or is temporarily out of order due to faulty service, your options remain within Pandora’s software. Pandora also allows you to skip tracks, as well as pause tracks at the user’s discretion.

By mid-2010 alone, Pandora had over seven hundred thousand tracks on file, including that of variant artists. More than forty-five million users had subscribed to Pandora and were using the system. Now being used as an app on smartphones and phones with similar features, Pandora has reached a new level.

The best thing about having Pandora as an application on your cell phone is that the first forty hours of music of each month is completely free. If a user wishes to continue the service after their forty hours within a month, this can be arranged for a small fee of less than one US dollar.

The app has proven its worth by allowing the system to suggest new artists and music, but also by allowing the listener to accept or reject suggested preferences. To make life even easier, you get links to buy songs that the listener wants to listen to over and over again on the Pandora website or Pandora app.
