Two years ago my husband and I took a road trip from New York to Arizona. One of the memorabilia that still stands out today is that of an old black and white sign that read Route 66, as well as the signs that read “Historic Route 66”. It wasn’t until we walked into an old gas station in Texas that I learned how old that road was. Postcards with Route 66 printed on them lay all over the gas station. Needless to say, I was delighted to have the opportunity to review this book.

By reading Lost on Route 66: Tales from the Mother Road, written by Katelyn Bohl and Eric Wilder, I was able to relate and appreciate the rich history of this road. This path meant so many different things to so many different people, and I was one of them.

Lost on Route 66 is a collection of stories, essays, and poems about the famous highway and those who traveled or lived near it. These stories provide you with life lessons that involve the life of being an American at the turn of the century, which shaped American life today. By reading each story, I was able to place myself on that path at a particular moment. The stories are sincere, sad and some are funny, but overall, each story teaches us a lesson, as in my favorite story from the book “The Little Lessons of Life”, which describes a tattooed and leather-clad motorcyclist helping a couple with a flat tire. . What did you want in return? For the couple just to convey the favor and help others. This story teaches us that simple lesson, “don’t judge a book by its cover” as in the case of this good-hearted motorcyclist.

Lost on Route 66: Tales from the Mother Road is a beautiful art from American history compiled into written memoirs that has now left me wanting to explore more. I look forward to the day when I get back on the road, face to face with that sign that says “Route 66”.
