There are two basic types of portable DVD players that you will find available. One type looks like a laptop and is a single screen, all in one unit. The other option you have when it comes to on-the-go DVD players is a dual-screen portable DVD player. These units have a single player and two independent mountable displays. Which is the best option? Both are popular and ultimately it all comes down to what you need. Let’s take a look at some of the advantages and disadvantages of each type in the areas that matter most.

Mounting

Two different types of DVD players require a different configuration to be mounted in your vehicle. An all-in-one model can be mounted between the two front seats and generally requires the use of a tray or riser to keep it in place and visible at eye level.

Mounting a dual screen player will require you to place each screen in the back of each front seat. This is done with a mounting kit that typically uses a velcro strap or similar device to hold them in place.

In general, there is not much difference in the complexity of the two types of facilities.

Portability

To take your player with you around the house or anywhere besides the car, the all-in-one portable DVD variety has a big advantage. This design is much more flexible and portable than the dual-screen model. Just take it with you, no need to uninstall it. This type is also good for people who plan to switch the player between vehicles.

Easy to use

If you have a larger vehicle, such as an SUV or minivan, a dual-screen model may be a better option because each side of the vehicle can have a clear view of its own screen without straining your neck to look.

An all-in-one player works well for small cars and has the advantage of having the controls right next to the picture.

Screen size

If it’s a larger screen you’re after, most all-in-ones have larger viewing areas than their dual-screen counterparts. In the two-screen configuration, each screen is generally smaller than what you would find in an all-in-one. That said, considering the fact that in any vehicle you won’t be far from either type of screen, size isn’t a big deal, as both are easy to see from just a few feet away.
